Materials and components
An appreciable share of our research work aims to identify materials and components that can be salvaged and recycled and, at the same time, to evaluate and develop the best technologies for their separation during vehicle handling at end of life. This activity is mostly carried out by the Fiat Research Centre, which is a partner in several research projects of the VI European Framework Program (VI FP), including CONCLORE (CONtrolled Closed LOop REcycling) and PROMISE (PROduct lifecycle Management and Information tracking using Smart Embedded systems). These projects monitor the product’s entire lifecycle, in order to make better use of its end-of-life reuse and recycling potential. The goal of these projects is to develop new methodologies, such as, algorithms for the evaluation of a component’s residual life and the use of new technologies for the automatic collection of the information needed for an optimal management of vehicle lifecycle.
