DISPOSAL
In Italy, about 1.5 million vehicles are scrapped every year, a total of over 1.2 million tons of materials. Based on the 2000/53/EC directive of the European Union, in force since 18 September 2000, car makers are responsible for organising, networks for the collection of vehicles at end of life their life, so as to ensure free vehicle withdrawal for the last owner. In order to ensure a perfect closure of the production cycle, in addition to taking action, to ensure efficient and ecologically valuable material salvaging and recycling processes, we have set up in Italy an extensive network of collection centres, where Fiat vehicles can be handed in for free, and where materials – such as steel, plastic and rubber – can be treated efficaciously through a veritable recycling chain.
